Vuk Velebit with Students from Ohio State University, Visit to Hilandar Research Library
Vuk Velebit meets Ohio students and visits Hilandar Research Library to strengthen academic cooperation
An inspiring conversation with students at The Ohio State University about U.S.–Serbia relations. We also discussed the Pupin Initiative’s student fellowship program, with the goal of involving even more students from the United States.
Afterwards, the President of the Pupin Initiative, Vuk Velebit, visited the Hilandar Research Library at Ohio State University. The collaboration between the Hilandar Monastery and Ohio State began in the late 1960s, when the Serbian Orthodox monks from Mount Athos requested assistance from the University to preserve photographic records of their manuscripts, documents, and religious artifacts. This led to the creation of the Hilandar Research Project (1969–1984), dedicated to microfilming and preserving Slavic manuscripts and other collections from the monastery’s library. The project later evolved into the Hilandar Research Library, now a Special Collection of The Ohio State University.
Sincere thanks to Professor Angela Brintlinger for organizing the visit and being a wonderful host in Ohio.
