Official Statement: U.S.–Serbia Strategic Dialogue

Today, we are opening a new chapter in Serbia–U.S. relations. The Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America is becoming a reality.

This important step marks a historic turning point and a long-awaited milestone in the relationship between our two countries and peoples.

From the presentation of our proposal and initiative to launch a Strategic Dialogue in Washington at the Pupin Forum in September 2024, followed by its presentation in Belgrade in October of the same year, until today, the Pupin Initiative has consistently advocated for the establishment of a Strategic Dialogue on every possible occasion, both in Serbia and in the United States.

The Pupin Initiative was founded with a clear vision and purpose: to usher in a new era of Serbia–U.S. relations through deeper strategic cooperation. Today, we proudly welcome the first step on that path.

The Strategic Dialogue is a diplomatic instrument of U.S. foreign policy that provides a framework for regular and continuous communication between the representatives of two countries on issues of strategic importance. It establishes clear mechanisms for implementing and monitoring agreed initiatives and, by its nature, is comparable to the strategic partnerships that Serbia has already successfully developed with other countries.

In the year that the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence, this dialogue offers a unique opportunity to further strengthen and institutionalize the historic ties between our two nations. We believe that our shared future holds tremendous potential, and that together we can fully realize it.

It is the responsibility of our generation to turn that potential into reality. We owe it to our predecessors, who fought side by side in two world wars, and to future generations, who should inherit a relationship built on partnership rather than the burdens of past divisions, missed opportunities, and defeatism.

Guided by the vision of Mihajlo Pupin, we remain committed to doing everything in our power to help Serbia and the United States write a new and brighter chapter in the history of their relationship. Today's milestone demonstrates that dedication, perseverance, and a clear vision can overcome obstacles and create lasting benefits for both nations and all of our citizens.
